Esoterische achtergrond van het Christendom, De
Het Christendom in het licht van de Theo-sofia
This book was previously published under the title: The Great Misunderstanding
Het Christendom in het licht van de Theo-sofia
Dick JPKok grew up in a non-religious but socially very active family, where the leaders of the emerging Socialism in the Netherlands met. Moved by the war violence in his time, he went in search of the deeper meaning and coherence of life in his twenties. His upbringing turned out to be a perfect basis to read the Bible with a fresh, unbiased view. And not only the Bible, but also the basic books of other religions, such as the Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Tao Teh King and later the Bhagavad-Gita.
Whoever reads these books without choosing one religion, discovers the similarities, the deeper common core in all those religions. Dick JP Kok constantly tried, from his social background, to make these deeper insights that he found socially applicable.
In 1946 he became a member of the Theosophical Society, where the common core of all religions, the Theo-sophia, is studied intensively. From 1958 to 1985 he led this Society, gave countless lectures, developed courses that were followed by many thousands of students.
This book The esoteric background of Christianity consists of a series of lectures, meditations, which he gave to a group of young people. They had asked him for this because he spoke to them about 'your Bible', while these young people had never read the Bible at home.
Stichting ISIS, once founded by Dick JP Kok, wants to give other, especially young people, the opportunity with this book to read the truly valuable Holy books in this world with the same fresh perspective, just as unprejudiced and to understand them in their esoteric meaning. With the thought in mind that you only understand something if you live by it.
