An old Hindu saying goes:
'He who knows what time dissolves into, knows everything'
In Sanskrit time is called Kala. He is a destroyer and also a regenerator. Yama, the lord of death, though powerful, is not as powerful as Kala; for 'until the moment comes Yama can do nothing.' The moments that pass before us, carrying all things in a long procession, are the atoms of time, the sons of Kala. Years pass into centuries, centuries into cycles, and cycles into ages, but time rules over all these, for they are but its divisions. Oh, how many ages have I seen time, itself invisible, painting pictures on its magic screen. When I saw the slimy trail of the serpent on the sacred Island of Destiny, I knew not time, for I thought that the next moment was different from the one in which I lived, and that both were different from what has passed.
The drama is the temple in which I was the victim - felled by the axe of the high priest - was followed by a second. This I soon discovered when, freed from my body, I spoke in spirit with my friend, the strange monk
