Katherine Tingley led the Theosophical Society from 1896 to 1929: the 'engine' behind the many spiritual and social innovations of that time.
Her mission was to give practical form to the central idea of Theosophy, namely Universal Brotherhood, the essential unity of all men, indeed of all beings.
She founded the International Headquarters of the Theosophical Society in Point Loma, California: a community of many hundreds, sometimes even thousands of members from all the countries of Europe and the Americas. She trained these members in Compassion as a natural attitude to life, and the necessary mastery over all petty human habits and tendencies.
She inspired them to translate the metaphysical ideas of Theosophy (the common source of all religions and philosophies) into practically applicable ways to raise the mentality of the world to a higher level.
Examples include her peace activities, her educational system, her work on behalf of prisoners and for the abolition of the death penalty, her promotion of the arts – music, drama, poetry, etc. – as 'food for the soul'.
The thoughts in this book still have the inspiring power they had when she spoke them in her many lectures. An important aid for everyone who wants to make Compassion central in their life.
